I may modify it with a roll pin to prevent rotation. Yes it it high quality but not a homerun in my opinion. I’ve been putting up with my old workstand, grumbling at it every time I used it, for years now. The final straw was using my friend’s workstand a few weeks ago – what was I thinking, using that great cast-iron lump for all these years?!

You could add sand or something to the tripod legs to weight it down but then it’s not portable. It held my 48 lb e-bike at a relatively normal angle without a problem. We needed something to park our bikes in the garage that wouldn’t require fixing anything to walls.

The legs fold up neatly and quickly and when collapsed, and although still a reasonable size, it props neatly in a corner or adjusts to a shorter length to go in the car boot.
I also liked how you could rotate the crank and do light maintenance, lubing of my chain, and so forth. Unfortunately it does not work with my road bike, my partner’s hybrid, or our 20+ year-old hard tail mountain bikes, all of which do not have a hole through the centre of the crank to accommodate the stand. Easy remedy is using a counter weight on the legs. I spent a lot of time reviewing all the stands at MEC before purchasing this one. Right out of the box, the set-up was a royal pain. The base requires you to push a metal pin through to secure the front two legs in place. Some people recommend putting sandbags on the legs, but if I pay 400+ for a bike stand I would expect it to stay standing.
It is rapid to deploy, with the minimum of fuss due to the quick-release clamps. Bit pricey for me but I know rei is going to have quality stuff so decided to risk it. This is a very solid piece of engineering – nice and sturdy and heavy enough that I wasn’t concerned with it wobbling. It also does not take up a lot of space once it’s folded. Also had no issues with the included instructions.
With this bicycle assembly stand, these things can be done easier and faster. I might rough up the stand part with sandpaper, or put small grooves in it to give the clamp something to grip on to see if that solves the problem. Third, the clamp holding the bike frame even at full tight will not keep the bike from rotating around the frame. Second, the “bike support stand” , when attached to the seat support does not grip tight enough to hold the bike in the position I set because there is too much weight from the front of the bike. The only fault I find is that the two legs do not quite spread far enough for a real rock solid base but that is the trade of with a stand that easily folds up and away like this. Only hiccup I’ve had is one time the stand toppled over when removing the bike and having the tool rack loaded down with tools.

All in all after making my modifications and adjustments the stand works well and is stable but it seems like it should work better out of the box. But when I received this stand I was surprised that it didn’t have any instructions on how to assemble it. It’s not rocket science and was easy to determine the correct black adapter to fit in my crank arms.
